Vocal recording tips

  • Warm up: Hum, lip trills, gentle scales before you hit record.
  • Hydrate: Water, not tea or coffee. Room-temp is best.
  • Distance: 6–8 inches from the mic for most vocals; the engineer can help dial it in.
  • Rough mix: Have a reference mix or backing track ready so you can hear yourself clearly.
  • Takes: Don’t overthink. Get a few solid takes, then comp. The engineer can help pick.

Dry hire vs with engineer

Dry hire: You run the session. You need to know your DAW, mic placement, and routing. Best if you’ve tracked before or you’re bringing your own engineer.

With engineer: We handle setup, monitoring, and getting the best signal. Ideal for first-timers, vocalists who want to focus on performance, or anyone who’d rather create than engineer.
